Creative Writing

This course offers students the opportunity to develop and improve their technique and individual style in poetry, short story, drama, essays, and prose. The emphasis of the courses is on writing; however, students may study exemplary representations to obtain a fuller appreciation of the craft.

Science Exploration
Semester
6/7/8 Grade
Students will engage in hands-on, inquiry-based experiments and design their own labs to investigate the scientific method. This course will also include a study of current scientific research happening in Colorado and around the world. Students will be introduced to different careers in the sciences and the requirements that are needed to obtain those careers.

Film and Literature
Semester
6/7/8 Grade
This course provides students an opportunity to examine films with books as their source. Students will read a variety of texts, including short stories and novels, then analyze the film versions of them. Discussions will center around cinematography, theme, the use of music, character development, and the importance of setting and mood.

Media Literacy
Semester
6/7/8 Grade
Media Literacy courses expose students to various types of social media and examine how social media has influenced society. In our multimedia world, digital citizens need the skills to critically evaluate and creatively produce media for print, as well as in audio and visual formats. This course teaches students how to apply critical thinking skills to a wide range of issues. It will also provide students with the skills necessary to effectively produce positive media.
