Performing Arts

Band

Beginning Band


Year-long
6/7/8 Grades

This course is available for students in any grade who want to learn to play a band instrument! Students have the opportunity to learn a brass, woodwind, or percussion instrument. This is a semester-long course, after which students will have the opportunity to audition into Advanced Band or Concert Band.



Concert Band


Year-long
6/7/8 Grades
Evening concerts are required.


Students must have 1-2 years of playing experience on their instrument, and should be able to play basic rhythms and read music. In class, students will learn about music
through performing on their instrument in large and small ensemble settings, and will develop both individual and large ensemble skills.


Symphonic Band

Year-long 7/8 Grades Evening concerts are required.
Seventh graders must have their previous director’s permission to take this class. Members of this ban
d must be able to play advanced rhythms and an extended range. In class students will learn about music through performing on their instrument in large and small ensemble settings, and will continue to develop individual and large ensemble skills at an advanced level.



Choir

Choir

Year-long 6/7/8 Grades Evening concerts are required.
No previous musical training is required.
Students in the Choir course have the opportunity to sing a variety of choral literature styles for men’s and/or women’s voices and are designed to develop vocal techniques and the ability to sing various parts.




Orchestra

Theatre Arts 

Theatre Arts

Students express themselves through dramatic play and storytelling. Course content typically includes the use of movement, language, character, plot, and spectacle to portray imaginary or real experiences. As appropriate, students may focus on acting techniques and traditions, other aspects of drama (staging, lighting, costuming), or both.




Theatre Arts Intermediate

Semester 
7/8 Grades
Theater Arts is the Prerequisite for this course.

Theatre Arts Intermediate courses focus on the study and performance of drama, including musical theatre. These courses review a wide range of scripted materials, such as plays, screenplays, teleplays, readers’ theatre scripts, dramatic criticism, creation of original dramatic works, and the role of dramatic arts in society. In addition, students work collaboratively on performances.
