Mathematics in Jeffco
Jeffco mathematics teaching and learning embraces a problem-based approach, grounded in the belief that every student possesses the potential to master grade-level mathematics. In our program, students learn math by doing math.
Jeffco mathematics classrooms are joyful communities of learners engaged in rigorous, collaborative mathematical experiences facilitated by educators who support each and every student to develop conceptual understanding, procedural fluency and adaptive reasoning skills that transfer to their daily lives and future careers.
Mathematics at Creighton Middle School
Creighton students work on a wide variety of math concepts with the district’s Illustrative Math program. Students learn to:
- Complete the progression of standards for proficiency and fluency of standard algorithms for all positive whole numbers, fractions and decimals
- Understand the purpose of negative numbers and how they are used on a number line and coordinate graphs
- Gain an understanding of integers and absolute value
- Plot points in all four quadrants and apply their understanding of absolute value to determine side lengths of polygons in the coordinate plane
This list is a small sample of the many mathematical concepts students learn throughout their years at Creighton. Strong knowledge in these areas prepares them for high school and beyond.
