Math - 6th Grade

Students work on a wide variety of math concepts.  Students will complete the progression of standards for proficiency and fluency of standard algorithms for all positive whole numbers, fractions and decimals.  Students will understand the purpose of negative numbers and how they are used on a number line and coordinate graphs.  They will gain an understanding of integers and absolute value.  They will plot points in all four quadrants and apply their understanding of absolute value to determine side lengths of polygons in the coordinate plane.  Students will reason about area formulas for triangles and quadrilaterals.  Students connect rates and ratios to whole number multiplication and division.
